While out shooting the other night, I was faced with this very situation and started wondering what would other photographers do? Yes, it’s very situational type of question but generalize it and go with your gut answer (pun intended)!

For me it would depend a lot on the availability of the subject and the lighting, but assuming I would have more time or opportunities to keep shooting, I would break for food, which is how I voted.
If, however, it was a unique situation and I wouldn’t have the opportunity to return for more photos, I would keep shooting. Food can wait, but opportunities doesn’t always knock twice!
For the record, what spurred me to post this poll was having this happen while out shooting during the last full moon. Becuase I had hiked about a mile into the hills and climbed about 50-700ft in elevation I keep on shooting. Eventually the hunger pains went away. But I learned the lesson to always pack some snack bars in the camera bag!
